Where is unchained reaction filmed

A great deal of the fun of the show comes from hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman , and the duo have just been set to topline another Discovery series with a science edge. Deadline reports that the two will serve as judges for the new show Unchained Reaction. Each team is provided with the same tools and materials to complete the job, and is given five days to finish a series of mechanisms with a specific theme.

There's 10 contestants, four cameras, three judges, and a mentor. And you can't show what happened all week long. You have to pick your battles, and exemplify the things that are important to us. Which builds exemplify what we're going for?

Or, show what's difficult about achieving some particular ingenuity. It's not an easy show to edit. What's been the most exciting element on the show for you? Savage: We add a wrinkle in the middle of the build, what's called the "missing link. They're tired, sometimes not getting along, and we add this wrinkle, and sometimes it just allows them to sing.

It produces some solutions that are absolutely thrilling. In the first episode, you made a point of pointing out that it was filmed in Los Angeles, and that you had to leave to go back to San Francisco, where you film "MythBusters. Hyneman: The whole place has a different feel.

We usually film in a shop we've been using for a long time, so it's a different environment. But at the same time, there are more resources in L. Not just in terms of grips and lighting, but also in material resources.

We supply teams with what they need, a random supply of stuff, and L. How do you decide the themes? Savage: That was the easy part. We were just looking for broad concepts that got us interested--things that as builders would get our creative juices flowing. Hyneman: Not all the episodes do this, but we like going from one extreme of a phenomenon to another. Like, from fire to ice. Hot to cold, something like that. Be respectful, keep it civil and stay on topic.

The second fail of the show is the "themes" themselves. They really add nothing to the construction of the machines. Instead of a "speed" theme, restrictions such as: needed to use x number of balls in your machine, or not being able to use electricity in your machine etc Another issue is during the execution of the machines.

Discovery needs to capture the action much better. Constant close-ups lead to rapid cuts which makes following the action harder.

Perhaps have 2 views on the screen, where one is a wider angle pull-back, and the other more of a close-up. I'm sure it can be done better than it is on the show. My last beef is with the myth busters hosts themselves. Watching them in their limited screen time on this show feels uncomfortable somehow.

It has the air of selling out. They should have stayed completely behind the camera on this one. The guy they have come in to inspect the machines intermittently is also a bad choice. Wondering around like he just got out of bed, I have never seen a TV host that looks so uninterested, lifeless and pompous all at the same time. DSlayd Apr 13, Details Edit. United States. Hyneman — the beret-topped straight man — and Savage — the flame-haired wild child — simultaneously filmed the six episodes of Unchained Reaction alongside the current season of Mythbusters , dividing their time between the Unchained Reaction warehouse in Los Angeles and their Mythbusters headquarters in San Francisco, where the pair are based. Hyneman and Savage hope the show will tap into what made cartoonist Rube Goldberg a visionary in the early 20th century with his wacky illustrations, as well as what kept the band OK Go in the viral video spotlight with their doodad-filled music video for This Too Shall Pass.

One team was a group of scientists who spent a lot of time drawing designs on the whiteboard. Some machines have involved such zany elements as a guillotine chopping off the heads of stuffed rabbits and a giant ball of duct tape rolling down an incline in the style of the Indiana Jones boulder.
